Set to American pianist Van Cliburn's historic performance of
Tchaikovsky's first piano concerto in Soviet Moscow in 1958, the
piece collages the heavily redacted Mueller Report, a redacted
printing of Chekhov's "The Cherry Orchard" and a trio between two performers in borrowed theatrical ‘Russian Serf’ costumes and a drone. The piece is a dramaturgical dive into the Mueller
Report's account of the Internet Research Agency, a team of
Russian hackers who influenced the 2016 election by
impersonating US coal miners, Muslim-Americans, BLM activists
—among others. An American Wins in Russia questions the
weaponizing of fiction in the service of ‘Perception Management’
with Maryam Faridani.
